Legalizing marijuana in America would be a tremendous boost for the country!

Many people that laugh at the thought of legalizing marijuana have never taken the time to understand the facts about how the war on drugs costs the US taxpayers billions upon billions of dollars annually to fight a no-win war against a plant.

Here are some important facts that most people are totally unfamiliar of:

US Prison Population and Hemp: The United States contains less than 5% of the worlds human population but houses nearly 25% of the entire worlds prison population!  This is largely due to the enormous amount of non-violent pot smokers that now sit in prison as a result of their hemp plant usage.

According to data maintained by the International Center for Prison Studies at King's College London, the United States has more than 2.3 million people behind bars, more than any other nation.  And you though America was the "Land Of The Free"?
...BETTER THINK AGAIN!

Top Reasons For Legalizing

- Most estimates put the annual cost of the "War on Drugs" in excess of $40 billion.

-The amount that every American has to pay in taxes could be tremendously reduced if we didn't waste money on paying police and federal agents for performing drug-raids, booking drug users, performing undercover drug stings, etc.

1,841,182 arrests for drug abuse violations were made in 2007 alone. according to official FBI statistics.

- The average annual cost of housing an inmate in the prison system is roughly $43,287 a year, according to California figures by the Legislative Analyst's Office.

Arguments For and Against Drug Legalization

IncorrectWe need to keep arresting drug users because drugs are bad for their health so drug users need law-enforcement to arrest them to protect them from harming their own health.
Correct:
We cannot make someone follow a healthy lifestyle by throwing them in prison.  If that was the case then we would be throwing hundreds of millions of more people in prison for eating cheeseburgers as obesity is a tremendous health risk and the major cause of heart-attacks and other health conditions!
